What is WELL certification?

WELL certification is a building comfort assessment system that focuses specifically on the health and well-being of the building’s occupants. Launched in 2014 by the International WELL Building Institute (IWBI), WELL is the first system to determine the way in which buildings can tangibly improve our lives.

WELL: characteristics and certification process

WELL certification sets specific, measurable values that can be used to assess the suitability of the materials chosen for new buildings in terms of comfort and sustainability.

The protocol is divided into ten concepts: Air, Water, Nourishment, Light, Movement, Thermal Comfort, Sound, Materials, Mind and Community.

The certification process requires the cooperation of manufacturers, designers and builders, who have to carry out numerous on-site tests.

The building’s final performance is also assessed by the occupants through annual quality-of-life surveys.

Italian ceramics improve our quality of life

Designing buildings that guarantee comfortable spaces is crucial to improving the relationship between human beings and their homes.

The properties of ceramic floor and wall tiles make them particularly suitable for this application because they improve indoor air quality and help to naturally regulate indoor temperatures. Italian ceramic tiles also ensure high energy savings and have a reduced environmental impact during all phases of their life cycle, from production to disposal.

Advantages of Italian ceramic tiles and WELL certification

Italian ceramics are the ideal material for use in the construction of new nZEB (Nearly Zero Energy Buildings) with high energy efficiency and for all projects that prioritise wellbeing and living comfort.

WELL certification is a valuable opportunity for ceramic producers to promote their products and raise awareness of sustainability and functionality.
