The Casa Rosanna hotel is housed in a semi-detached villa built in 1885 in a prominent position in the town of Marsaskala, Malta. The building was recently renovated and expanded with the aim of preserving and highlighting its period features, such as the grand staircase leading to the first floor, the limestone floors in three of the upstairs rooms, the limestone spiral staircase leading to the pool area, and the timber beams supporting the traditional stone slab ceilings. The project has given new life to the building, transforming it from a private residence into a boutique B&B with views over Marsaskala Bay and the Mediterranean.

The project was assigned to Halmann Vella, a leading Maltese provider of natural stone products and related services. The company reinterpreted the historical architecture with a contemporary aesthetic, designing each room to balance Maltese heritage with modern style, tradition with innovation.

In the reception area, guests are welcomed by reinterpretations of classic tile motifs and an elegant polished lava stone desk that enhances the sense of luxury and highlights Italian craftsmanship. Each of the hotel’s four floors follows a different theme, with small-format tiles and striking decorative elements chosen for the bedrooms and the coordinated walls in the bathrooms.

Modern cement tiles from the Terra.Art collection were chosen in the Astro design and a variety of colours (Cielo, Oceano) and in the Geometrica line in Sabbia and Menta tones. The designers also selected Multiforme, a resin- and cement-inspired collection in the vibrant limestone-effect version. For the bathrooms, Halmann Vella supplied custom-made vanity units and sanitaryware, ensuring a consistent design language that balances style with practicality. The floor tiles in the first-floor restaurant coordinate with a custom buffet counter in glossy Bianco Carrara, a combination that blends historical references with contemporary design to create an atmosphere that is at once welcoming and refined.
