A closer look at the Italian ceramic tile industry’s latest products reveals just how closely their design and development are attuned to contemporary lifestyles and living spaces.

Shapes, materials and surfaces
Three-dimensionality takes centre stage this year, with a clear focus on striated rectangular formats. Ribbed, grooved and fluted textures are everywhere, animating surfaces with their endless series of incisions.
These striations – whether regular or irregular, fine or broad, high or low relief – lend character to walls and introduce visual contrasts and effects that break away from the rigidity of traditional grid-based layouts.
On these three-dimensional surfaces, light becomes a design element in its own right. Working in harmony with colour and material, it brings surfaces to life, creating dynamic patterns that interrupt the wall’s visual continuity.
Formats range from large planks to slim “kit-kat” or “mini-stick” tiles, as well as elegant fluted modules. This variety opens up new creative potential, allowing curved surfaces to be tiled safely while offering maximum freedom of composition.
This sense of harmony also arises from the effective use of contrasts: curved, flowing lines set against more geometric forms; matt finishes juxtaposed with gloss; bold colour pairings or unexpected combinations. The design process takes on a multi-material approach, a playful dialogue between wood, sand, marble, leather and stone effects and between new and traditional layouts. Classic patterns are reimagined in contemporary or even “pop” interpretations, blending originality with the timeless quality, style and elegance for which Italian ceramics are renowned.
Colours
The latest collections avoid bold or ostentatious tones, opting instead for balanced palettes of simple, neutral and monochromatic hues. These subtle shades are ideal for minimalist interiors, where ceramics act as a blank canvas, creating warm, comfortable and sustainable spaces with a distinct personality.
At the heart of this trend lies a deep, ancestral desire for a home as a sanctuary, a simple, minimalist space where we can disconnect and digitally detox, restoring a sense of relaxation and harmony.
Italian ceramic tiles also embrace the popular colour drenching trend: the use of a single tone throughout a room – across walls, fixtures and furnishings – to create a sense of immersive continuity.
Pale hues such as white, cloud, cream, butter, milk, talc, beige, sand and honey coordinate effortlessly with other colours and natural materials to create restful and easily customisable environments.
Natural and artificial light plays a key role, its reflections magnified by pale tones that create a mood of calm and serenity, enhanced by golden accents, subtle textures and warm undertones.
At the deeper end of the spectrum, colours take on a warm, earthy feel and the immersive look of natural materials, while more pronounced textures stimulate tactility. These natural tones evoke a sense of comfort and reconnect us with the world around us. In these uncertain times, we are also seeing a renewed appreciation for the past, for craftsmanship and authenticity. Porcelain stoneware interprets materials such as wet earth, rust, leather and terracotta in a modern, understated and elegant way.
Alongside these natural tones, we are seeing the emergence of deeper, more emotional colours inspired by nature. Greens such as olive, forest, sage and aquamarine create a sense of balance and calm, while cooler shades like sky blue convey serenity and teal adds a soothing touch. Grey remains one of the most versatile neutrals in a palette from mist to lead, smoke, anthracite and silver, pale quiet grey to sophisticated moonbeam, creating spaces that are both tranquil and contemporary.
Finally, the colour of the year – Mocha Mousse – embodies warmth, comfort and sensory pleasure. This soft yet intense brown perfectly embodies the “quiet luxury” trend for understated elegance and beauty expressed through detail rather than ostentation.
In an increasingly fragmented and uncertain world, this immersive colour offers comfort, balance and harmony, inviting us to slow down and savour life’s simple pleasures. It is a tribute to the earth, to our roots and to what is essential.
Marble and stone-effect ceramics
Marble-effect ceramic tiles offer not only elegant and realistic interpretations of natural stone but also a tactile and visual experience made possible by advanced technology. Their soft, refined surfaces stand out for their pronounced veining that catches the light, for their transparency and translucence, and for the dramatic mottled or backlit effects inspired by precious stone.
In stone-effect tiles, detail is everything. These richly textured yet soft-touch surfaces stand out for their distinctive striations and heterogeneous fragments, deep three-dimensional textures and irregular shading that recreate the appearance of timeworn rock with astonishing realism.
Here too, the colours are soft, luminous and natural, with warm beige tones, crystalline patterns and slate striations that give the surfaces a vibrant, hyper-real look.
While inspiration comes from stones and marbles from across the world, this year we are seeing a surge in interest in stones from the Mediterranean region and especially Southern Italy, which bring a sense of history, culture and timeless sophistication.
Accents
Ceramic accents play a vital role in creating the home of the future, spaces that nurture wellbeing while expressing individuality. These tiles command attention with their strong personality and eye-catching surfaces that reflect light and movement and transform spatial perception.
Just a few details are sufficient to brighten up a floor, create a play of contrasting materials or finishes, and introduce a touch of refinement such as veins and golden highlights on travertine.
Even plain colours are taking on new decorative appeal through the interplay of curved and square shapes, gloss and matt effects and contrasting materials.
Smooth surfaces are giving way to vibrant textures and tactile finishes that add depth and character to even the most minimalist interiors.
Contemporary reinterpretations of ceramic terrazzo stand out for their interplay of colour, pattern and texture, with raised inclusions and stone fragments that enhance their material presence. Ancient mosaics provide further inspiration, bringing a sense of rhythm and light to surfaces, while vivid dopamine colours emerge in craquelé-glazed details that shimmer with vitality.
The home of tomorrow
Almost all Italian ceramic tile collections now form complete ranges, spanning everything from small tiles to large-format extra-thick slabs and ultra-thin panels, along with coordinated decorations and trim pieces. Their versatility makes them suitable for residential, commercial and contract design projects, for use indoors and out, on façades and pavements, and even combined across multiple collections.
This vast range opens up unlimited architectural possibilities.
