Wienerberger announces the 11th Brick Award 2024

Wienerberger, a leading supplier of innovative and sustainable building solutions with a history dating back more than 200 years, has announced the upcoming 11th International Brick Award to be held in 2024. For almost two decades, wienerberger has been celebrating the outstanding achievements of brick architecture and highlighting the transformative power of this material in contemporary design.
wienerberger first launched the Brick Award as a biennial event back in 2004 to highlight the versatility and modernity of brick as a natural building material and to showcase the dynamic and innovative potential of brick architecture. Although organised by wienerberger, the Brick Award is an independent competition and the use of wienerberger products is not a requirement for participation.
The Brick Award is presented in five categories: Feeling at home, Living together, Working together, Sharing public spaces, and Building outside the box. The category winners and the overall winner of the Brick Award 24 will be announced at the award ceremony to be held on 6 June 2024 in Vienna, Austria.

“More than ever before, architecture faces the challenge of enabling affordable housing while at the same time conserving the natural resources of our planet. The projects nominated for the Brick Award 24 illustrate the innovative power that is needed to balance these sometimes conflicting goals and quite clearly show the potential offered by different types of brick in a wide range of applications. Resource-efficient construction and the use of local materials are more than just an ongoing fashionable trend but are quite literally the foundation for a sustainable quality of life. This makes it all the more important to provide a stage for these inspiring examples of best practice,” says Heimo Scheuch, CEO, Wienerberger AG.

A jury of internationally renowned architects selected 50 projects out of the total of 743 submissions from 54 countries.

In this edition of the award, 31 of the selected projects are from Europe, nine from Central and South America and the remainder from North America, Australia, India and other Asian countries such as South Korea, China, Thailand, Vietnam and the Philippines.

An international jury composed of five renowned architects – Christelle Avenier (France), Christine Conix (Belgium), Wojciech Malecki (Poland), Boonserm Premthada (Thailand) and Ingrid van der Heijden (Netherlands) – selected the category winners, including one Grand Prix winner.

The winners of the Brick Award 24 will be announced at the award ceremony to be held on 6 June 2024 in Vienna and featured in the Brick 24 Book together with the 50 selected entries. The winning projects will receive a cash prize.
