The essence of the design lies in achieving a balance between tranquillity and experience, sophistication and accessibility, and between creating a space that surprises visitors while making them feel completely at home. This is how LDE Interiors, the Dutch interior design and integrated design studio responsible for the entire project, introduces Skin Studio Annick, a beauty salon in Oldenzaal, the Netherlands. “The client wanted a luxurious atelier with a warm, welcoming atmosphere, specifically designed to make women feel comfortable and at ease. Her vision of a beauty salon was not simply a place dedicated to treatments, but somewhere that could offer a complete experience. Our aim was therefore to create a sense of calm and familiarity within a multifunctional environment, while also introducing sophisticated and unexpected elements. The overall atmosphere needed to feel luxurious, personal and inviting,” explains Lisanne den Elzen, founder of the design studio.

The original premises, which were completely open-plan, allowed considerable freedom in the interior design. However, the structural columns presented a challenge when developing the new layout, while an old bank vault, a remnant of the building’s previous use, had to be carefully integrated into the design and concealed. The functional organisation of the salon, comprising a retail area, a space dedicated to consultations and workshops, three treatment rooms, service areas and an office, determined the spatial layout. The interior design concept was then developed to create an environment that would feel glamorous and exclusive without ever appearing distant or intimidating. The aim was to establish a natural flow between the different areas while maintaining a consistent design language and a unified atmosphere throughout the salon. “Our main inspiration was femininity, translated into soft shapes, curves, tactile fabrics and carefully selected materials. We wanted to avoid anything that felt too rigid, cold or excessively clinical, so we chose rounded forms, delicate textures and wall finishes that create depth and add personality to the interiors,” the designer explains. The extensive use of functional furniture and bespoke design elements helped establish a harmonious relationship between the furnishings, the architecture and the overall atmosphere of the space. “For the flooring, we needed a calm, neutral-toned foundation that would harmonise with the materials, shapes and finishes used throughout the project. COEM’s Flow ceramic collection, in the Beige Naturale colour, features subtle colour variations and a rich texture that give the material character without allowing it to dominate the interiors of Skin Studio Annick. “This choice contributes to the overall sense of serenity, allowing the different interior elements to blend together naturally,” concludes LDE Interiors.
