With its contemporary, almost futuristic aesthetic, the Gagua Clinic in Tbilisi introduces a fresh approach to healthcare design. This 2,500-square-metre women’s health centre, designed by Tsutskiridze Architects, is the result of an architectural language that transcends purely stylistic qualities. The fluid forms and distinctive colour palette of its interiors reinterpret functional architecture through a modern lens, bringing together innovation and identity in spaces where even the smallest details are meticulously designed to convey a sense of efficiency, modernity and humanity.

The project adopted a multidisciplinary approach that combines architecture, interior design and furnishings, all developed in-house by Tsutskiridze Architects. By coordinating these different activities in parallel, the studio achieved a coherent visual identity and a perfect balance between form and function.

The design vision centres on the use of concrete and colour, two distinctive elements that were chosen not just for their physical and decorative qualities but as defining features of the entire project. Gagua Clinic combines the reassuring solidity of its physical structures with a colour palette dominated by green and yellow, chosen for their associations with productivity and renewal. These tones capture the building’s sense of purpose and serve as a unifying thread in its architectural language.

The geometry of the site dictated the shape of the building envelope, a trapezium recalling the simplicity of a triangle. Each façade adopts a different design language while maintaining a dialogue with the others to create a coherent and dynamic whole. At the centre of the building is a large atrium around which the main public services are arranged, including an auditorium, a café, a pharmacy, outpatient clinics and offices. The upper floors house the medical areas, including inpatient wards, ten delivery rooms, four operating theatres, intensive care units and support areas, with capacity for up to 100 patients.

For the interior floors, Tsutskiridze Architects selected porcelain tiles from LA FABBRICA AVA’s Le Malte collection, a choice in keeping with the project’s contemporary character. Offering a unique reinterpretation of the most authentic aesthetic qualities of resin, Le Malte recreates the distinctive trowelled finish of manually applied surfaces. The deep tones and unique tactile quality of the surfaces create a sensory experience that fits in perfectly with the essential, refined aesthetic. For the Gagua Clinic, the designers opted for Grey coloured tiles in an 80×80 cm size, a discreet, stylstically understated solution that complements the colour scheme chosen for the interiors.
