At the 2023 edition of the Klimahouse exhibition to be held in Bolzano from 8 to 11 March, the Confindustria Ceramica Brick and Roof Tile Group’s stand (Sector CD, stand C19/42) will be illustrating the commitment to sustainability that has always been a top priority for the entire ceramic industry.

Amid growing awareness of the need to protect the environment and to use the planet’s resources sustainably throughout the life cycle of buildings, it is becoming increasing important to find and adopt practical and feasible solutions. This means it is essential to manage the construction industry’s ecological transition effectively with the contribution of the various components of the supply chain.

The brick and roof tile industry is constantly committed to caring for nature by producing socially, environmentally and economically sustainable materials and systems. The clay brick and tile production process uses:
– widely available and locally sourced natural raw materials (mainly clay);
responsible extraction processes, with exhausted quarries being turned into nature reserves;
resource- and energy-efficient production processes.

Houses constructed with clay bricks are not only healthy, safe and comfortable, but also require no special maintenance due to these materials’ outstanding durability and the fact that they maintain their characteristics over time. Bricks and tiles also have plenty of potential for reuse, recovery and recycling at the end of the building’s lifetime in keeping with the principles of the circular economy.

These topics will be explored at the upcoming Klimahouse exhibition through dedicated graphics and two specialist events:

BUILDING SUSTAINABILITY AND THE NEW MINIMUM ENVIRONMENTAL CRITERIA
9 March 2023 at  2:00 pm c/o Sala Tribulaun (Level “0” gallery – Hall sector C, Palaonda side).

The Ministerial Decree of 23 June 2022, which was published in the Official Journal on 6/8/2022 and came into effect on 4 December, contains an update of the Minimum Environmental Criteria (CAM). The purpose of this workshop is to illustrate the main new features of the updated legislation, focusing in particular on the key role of the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) in making a correct and accurate sustainability evaluation of buildings. The concrete and ceramic industries will present the aspects of the new legislation that are of specific interest to the two production sectors.

Speakers:

Caterina Gargari, Coord. UNI WG Sustainability in construction
Structure of the Minimum Environmental Criteria (CAM) 2022 and the importance of the life cycle assessment of buildings

Alessandra Ronchetti, Assobeton
The contribution of concrete products to the Minimum Environmental Criteria (CAM)

Michela Pola, Federbeton
The contribution of ready-mixed concrete to the Minimum Environmental Criteria (CAM)

Alfonsina Di Fusco, Confindustria Ceramica
The contribution of structural clay products and ceramic tiles to the Minimum Environmental Criteria (CAM)

The specific guidelines drawn up by Confindustria Ceramica will also be presented.

INDOOR COMFORT THANKS TO CLAY BRICKS AND ROOF TILES
10 March 2023 at 12:45 pm
c/o Klimahouse Academy (Hall sector A)

In addition to meeting energy efficiency requirements, with structural clay masonry and roofing systems it is possible to achieve optimal levels of thermal comfort thanks to the inertial properties of the vertical envelope and the characteristics of ventilation and breathability of the roof coverings.

Speakers:

Costanzo Di Perna, Polytechnic University of the Marche
The energy advantages of solid structures

Mario Cunial, industrial partner of Life Superhero project
Superventilated roofs for passive cooling of buildings

Alongside the presence of Confindustria Ceramica, several of the association’s member companies will also be taking part in Klimahouse 2023: BMI (Sector CD, stand D23/20), FORNACI LATERIZI DANESI (Sector CD, stand C19/04), INDUSTRIE COTTO POSSAGNO (Sector CD, stand D26/06) and WIENERBERGER (Sector CD, stand D26/08).
