Products Trends

Italian creativity, American horizons | by Antonia Solari
(March 2026) – Among the more than one thousand international exhibitors from around 40 countries, Italian ceramic tile manufacturers take a leading role at the 2026 edition of Coverings, North America’s premier trade show for ceramic and natural stone surfaces and related technologies.
Held in the welcoming and functional spaces of the recently renovated Las Vegas Convention Center, Coverings reaches an audience of distributors, retailers, designers, architects and contractors from across the globe.
Against this backdrop, the Ceramics of Italy pavilion coordinated by Confindustria Ceramica stands as a benchmark for exhibitors and visitors seeking the excellence of Italian-made products.
The following selection of some of the most interesting proposals from Italian companies heading to Las Vegas offers an overview of the latest ceramic production, with a specific focus on the needs of the US market. Categorised by style, these proposals cover a broad spectrum of solutions, from structured and glossy surfaces to the latest trends in colour and decoration.
High-definition textures
Ceramic surfaces with distinctive textures are emerging as one of the most dynamic expressions of contemporary research focused on combining high technical performance with increasingly elaborate, tactile surfaces.
Relief geometries, three-dimensional modules and sculpted patterns transform tiles into architectural elements that interact with light, generating shadows that shift the perception of space throughout the day. Alongside structured designs, finishes reminiscent of plaster, fabric, worked stone or concrete achieve visual depth and a distinct tactile quality.
The resulting ceramic surfaces transcend traditional two-dimensionality to become authentic design tools suitable for both residential decorative walls and visually striking backdrops in hospitality and retail. These multifaceted proposals respond to the growing demand for high-impact surfaces that combine technical performance with sensory appeal.
Glossy and luminous
Glossy tiles are returning to prominence with proposals focused on brilliance and colour intensity. Thanks to their ability to reflect natural and artificial light, glossy finishes help make interiors brighter and airier, enhancing the perception of space.
Available in vertical rectangular formats ideal for adding visual height to walls or in faceted, diamond-shaped geometries that multiply reflections, these surfaces transform wall coverings into true decorative elements. Recent research focuses on solid, compact colours in regularly repeating patterns, tone-on-tone sequences and bolder compositions where saturated colour fields dialogue with contrasting grout lines.
The result is a series of indoor and outdoor collections with high visual impact that blend formal rigour with expressive freedom, making them perfectly suited to residential and commercial projects that prioritise personality and light.
Modular geometry
Ceramics with geometric patterns interpret wall coverings as graphic, modular surfaces that lend rhythm and structure to a space. Decoration can be achieved within individual tiles – using clean, calibrated motifs to define orderly fields – or through more articulated compositions where the combination of different colours and formats generates dynamic patterns.
This is not just a question of design but a comprehensive compositional strategy. Through the use of alternating colours, carefully considered contrasts and controlled repetition, walls and floors can be constructed as continuous surfaces, almost like ceramic textiles. This vision is reinforced by a variety of formats that go beyond traditional squares and rectangles to include hexagons, polygons and other special shapes, greatly increasing the possibilities for installation. The result is a ceramic material that becomes a compositional tool, capable of articulating space with strong graphic character, rhythm and proportion.
Harmonious neutrals
Neutral tones remain central to contemporary design, offering balanced, timeless surfaces. Soft greys, warm beiges, sage shades and desaturated hues are often available in large formats, creating expansive, continuous fields. Here, colour extends uniformly, interrupted only by subtle discontinuities, light surface variations or faint material traces. These ceramic surfaces provide designers with a neutral canvas for interior design, a backdrop that enhances the furniture, materials and decorative details rather than competing with them visually. Their strength lies in their ability to generate calm and reassuring atmospheres, offering a quiet backdrop that amplifies natural light without distracting from the indoor setting or the landscape outside.
The result is a sober and measured language in which colour balance and visual continuity become design tools that promote a sense of comfort and harmony.
Indoor/Outdoor
Collections conceived for indoor and outdoor installation respond to the increasingly vital need for fluid, continuous spaces. The same surface can be used for both interiors and exteriors, maintaining consistent format, colour and material while offering different levels of slip resistance according to the area of use.
This visual consistency blurs the distinction between inside and out, transforming the floor into a connective element. A living room can extend into an outdoor relaxation area or a kitchen into an outdoor dining space. Large slabs and coordinated modules amplify this continuity, reinforcing the sensation of a unified space.
Whether connecting a home with a garden or a terrace, these surfaces create a seamless transition between inside and out, delivering both technical performance and aesthetic uniformity for versatile spaces.
Natural-effect marble
Surfaces inspired by natural stone, particularly the most precious marbles, continue to exert powerful appeal in contemporary design. Production technologies allow for the faithful reproduction of veining, colour depth and tonal variations, enhanced through book-matched installation to achieve mirror-image continuity and visually striking compositions. In some cases slabs are backlit, transforming them into dramatic backdrops with enhanced transparencies and graphic details.
These surfaces are also used for kitchen worktops and bespoke furnishings, combining practicality and functionality with striking aesthetics. The result is refined and elegant environments where the allure of natural material dialogues with the needs of everyday living.
