The new Lumière at Malcolm building, designed by the acclaimed Californian architect William Hefner, is a residential development in Westwood, a western suburb of Los Angeles.

Its distinctly contemporary architectural design features large outdoor spaces that exude an aura of sophisticated luxury – a signature trait of Hefner’s work, in which architecture, landscape and interiors converge harmoniously in a holistic design experience.

Along with the unique residential units, each with a charming private terrace, the complex offers a range of communal amenities including a stylish heated swimming pool with a comfortable lounge area and a high-end fitness centre. Every aspect of the project, from the meticulous attention to detail to the premium finishes, reveals a commitment to quality, which is also reflected in the choice of Italian ceramic surfaces throughout.

“We chose a simple palette of materials, including lacquered cabinets, synthetic Calacatta marble and oak flooring,” says the architect. “We wanted to create something classic and timeless, with a high-quality feel. From initial design through to final installation, we worked closely with the artisans to ensure that every element had the desired proportions and fit together perfectly.”

For the surface coverings, Lea Ceramiche surfaces were chosen for their outstanding performance and aesthetics, greatly enhancing the project by adding a touch of luxury to both the communal spaces and the private apartments.

For the entrance and lobby, the Nextone stone effect collection from the 3-Tech Project range was chosen for its versatile, cohesive aesthetics and outstanding technical performance. The same collection was also selected in the Next Gray colour and Slimtech version for the communal spaces and in the Next Taupe colour for the swimming pool and terraces, creating inviting areas perfect for relaxation, lunch breaks or aperitifs with a view of the solarium.

For the kitchen, William Hefner selected a Slimtech Delight backsplash in the elegant Calacatta Oro shade, a version that offers a contemporary interpretation of marble and adheres to modern style cues. The kitchen island was clad with surfaces from Maxa Slabs, the Panariagroup line of fibreglass reinforced ceramic slabs.

For the bathrooms, the architect chose the Timeless Marble collection from Lea Ceramiche, featuring an elegant Statuario White surface. This collection enhances the allure of interiors by interpreting marble as an emblem of elegance. The Waterfall series in the Dark Flow colour was used for the floor, emulating the shimmering effects and the textured, irregular and varied hues typical of sedimentary stone.
