Located in the Raa atoll in the northern part of the Maldives archipelago, the island of Fasmendhoo is an earthly paradise. It is home to the Emerald Maldives Resort & Spa, part of the Italian-owned group The Emerald Collection which boasts over 40 years of experience in managing all-inclusive luxury resorts in the Indian Ocean, the Caribbean and East Africa. The 20-hectare property is located on one of the largest private islands in the Maldives and is surrounded by a natural coral reef that is easily accessible by seaplane from Malé.
A member of The Leading Hotels of the World, the resort was designed by Singapore-based architecture firm Poole Associates Private Limited in such a way as to blend in perfectly with its surroundings. The architects chose materials such as bamboo and local stone with a design that combines tropical Asian influences and contemporary Italian elegance, while focusing special attention to energy efficiency and nature conservation. It is a dream resort consisting of 120 villas, of which 60 are located on the island itself and 60 are overwater bungalows. All the villas boast contemporary, tropical-style architecture and are equipped with amenities such as wi-fi, flat-screen satellite TV, king-size bed, walk-in showers, outdoor showers, a large double bathtub, a spacious dressing room and walk-in wardrobe, air conditioning and ceiling fans.
One of the overwater villas is the Jacuzzi Water Villa, a 176-square-metre private bungalow with an outdoor Jacuzzi, a bathroom offering a breathtaking view of the sea through a full-height window, and a bedroom directly overlooking the Indian Ocean. An example of an island villa is the luxurious Royal Beach Villa, a 900-square-metre space with a 3 x 8-metre swimming pool and an exclusive, two-storey residence. The ground floor has two bedrooms, each with a private bathroom and wardrobe, a living room with bar and kitchen, a private garden, large covered and uncovered patios and a gazebo, while the first floor has another large guest room with bathroom, massage area, living room and walk-in wardrobe.
The modern, discreet interiors are designed to blend in with nature and the outdoors and are customised with ceramic surfaces from Atlas Concorde. The Etic Pro wood-effect collection chosen for the bright apartments has a stunning graphic design that faithfully reproduces the grain, sapwood, directional streaks, knots and mottled patterns of wooden boards and combines the vibrant look of wood with all the advantages of porcelain in terms of strength, durability, resistance and ease of maintenance.
The Marvel collection chosen for the bathrooms is a body-coloured porcelain stoneware inspired by the most prestigious traditional Italian marbles, recreating their intense colours, iridescent veining, deep shades, transparent mottled patterns and glossy surfaces. One example is Calacatta Extra, a marble effect surface with a pure white colour streaked with transparent veins, large grey bands and more pronounced vein patterns.
Finally, the exterior is dominated by the stone look of the Brave collection, with surfaces that enhance the outdoor, solarium and swimming pool areas and celebrate the timeless beauty of unspoiled nature.
