ADI – Associazione per il Disegno Industriale (Association for Industrial Design) has awarded the Honorable Mention of the prestigious Compasso d’Oro ADI International Award to Litokol Microcemento® recognizing the quality of its design, its alignment with the values of the Award, and its relevance to the theme “Designing Future Society for Our Lives”, inspired by Expo Osaka 2025.
The official award ceremony of the Compasso d’Oro International Award took place today, September 5, 2025, during Expo 2025 Osaka, at the Auditorium of the Italian Pavilion, attended by Mario Vattani, Commissioner General for Italy at Expo 2025 Osaka, Dimitri S. Kerkentzes, Secretary General of the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE), and Luciano Galimberti, President of ADI.
With this recognition, Litokol Microcemento® becomes part of the prestigious ADI Compasso d’Oro Collection, which the Italian Ministry of Culture declared in 2004 as being of “exceptional artistic and historical interest.”
Developed in the advanced research laboratories of Litokol Lab, Litokol Microcemento® is a next-generation composite material designed for ultra-compact, continuous solid surfaces. Its exclusive polymer–mineral formula, inspired by nature—textured like lime, dense like clay, porous like earth—delivers handcrafted finishes with unique design value and top performance.
Gian Luca Sghedoni, CEO of Litokol, emphasized how design, innovation, and research are interconnected: “We thank ADI for this award, which represents a source of pride for Litokol. It is above all a recognition of the work of our designers and our R&D team. It confirms the quality of our products, which combine technology, performance, and design, true to the best Italian tradition. Litokol Microcemento® is a new material, currently patent-pending. Inspired by nature, textured like lime, dense like clay, porous like earth. Handcrafted for continuous mineral surfaces with a unique design.”
The Honorable Mention received by Sghedoni for Litokol Microcemento® adds to the many official awards he has obtained throughout his career, including the Premio Leonardo Qualità Italia, presented at the Quirinale by the President Giorgio Napolitano “for product quality innovation and strong international vision,” and the EY Entrepreneur of the Year 2008 Award, reserved for entrepreneurs who have significantly contributed to Italy’s economic growth with creativity, initiative, and commitment.
Litokol is the hi-tech benchmark in providing next-generation technologies, products, and solutions for the installation of ceramic tile and natural stone systems, as well as in continuous design surfaces. It is a laboratory of experimentation and advanced research dedicated to innovation, where some of the world’s most innovative tile installation products are developed, backed by science and designed to help professional applicators improve their performance on job sites across every continent—offering them unprecedented safety and sensory experience.
The Compasso d’Oro International Award is the global extension of the most authoritative recognition of Italian design, established in 1954 from an idea by Gio Ponti. In more than 70 years of history, it has given rise to a collection of around 2,500 pieces, recognized by the Italian Ministry of Culture as a “heritage of exceptional artistic and historical interest.”
