Diaphanous exteriors in harmony with nature

Blazer Suites Hotel, located in the Voula coastal suburb of Athens just a short walk from the shopping streets and nightlife of Glyfada, is a modern complex whose statuesque elegance lies in its essential architecture. Defined by geometric volumes softened by gently rounded balconies, the building maintains a rigorously clean style. The interiors continue this theme: neutral earth tones in the furnishings and finishes create a refined, welcoming atmosphere that feels fresh and relaxing rather than sterile. The same spirit guided the recent renovation of the outdoor areas led by Greek architect Nino Dogiou. “The pool had never been refurbished and had become outdated, making it necessary to rethink the whole outdoor space,” he explains. “The main concept was relaxation, to offer guests a quiet outdoor space that would also serve as a visually appealing backdrop for the breakfast and bar area. The colours were chosen to blend in with the surroundings and to convey a sense of calm. As for functionality, we opted for a shallow pool that would be suitable for guests of all ages, and to enhance the experience we added three sunbathing islands surrounded entirely by water.”

Guided by a “less is more” philosophy, Dogiou created a restrained, balanced space with discreet furniture and accessories from local suppliers that fit in with the minimalist style of the pool area. But the true focal point of the space is the Brera ceramic tile collection from Energieker, chosen in the Fresh shade with a sandblasted finish. Its concrete effect ties in visually with the architecture while serving as a neutral base for an atmosphere centred on wellbeing. Like all Energieker lines, Brera is produced by means of a sustainable process with in-house energy generation and complete recovery of water and raw materials – a decisive factor in its selection for this project. In this collective outdoor space, every element speaks the language of nature, formal elegance and technological content, just like the pool itself. “The new water filtration system uses salt electrolysis for sanitisation, avoiding the use of harsh chemicals,” notes Dogiou. “This reduces energy consumption, eliminates harmful substances and ensures the water stays clean efficiently. The shallow depth also minimises the total water volume.”
