The Californian dream has persisted for over half a century and shows no signs of ending any time soon. The global dissemination of the deconstructivist vision of Frank Gehry, who was the first to realise that California was not just an American state but the embodiment of a certain conception of «on the road» architecture, remains as strong as ever. All the leaves are brown and the sky is grey. I’ve been for a walk on a winter’s day. I’d be safe and warm if I was in LA. California Dreamin’ on such a winter’s day … fragments of the legendary song by The Mamas & Papas serve as an epic backdrop to all the architectures that in some way pay tribute to the work of Frank Gehry, one of today’s most renowned international architects. If it is true that we are still immersed in the bright lights of the «society of the spectacle», as Guy Debord defined it a few decades ago, then it is hardly a surprise that the theme of a hotel in a Californian (or rather a Los Angeles and therefore a Hollywood) version should be explored through a blend of the colours of California and those of the Mediterranean coast near the city of Catania in Sicily. And if travelling is a way of exploring a different reality, how much better if hospitality has the added value of a cinematic dimension, an opportunity to escape from the daily routine. Deconstructed and fragmented like a movie edited one frame at a time, the recomposed building appears to have been reassembled in a new configuration following a cataclysm, preserving the memory of the last earthquake. Even the direct online advertising alludes to the on the road epic, albeit with references to a remote past: «Travelling along the state road 114 towards Acireale, on the section known as Riviera dei Limoni, one cannot help but think of Goethe, of his astonishment at the colours and scents of this unique landscape, immortalised in his verses and in those of other great writers from the past. Shortly before the junction for Acireale, at the southern entrance to the Baroque town, the All Seasons Acireale Catania hotel stands out at first sight for its unique architecture. The hotel structure consists of two volumes, a conventional hotel and an American style annex located alongside the «La Timpa» nature reserve and about 200 metres from the entrance leading to the more famous reserve called «La Gazzena». From here it is possible to follow nature trails along the coast as far as the famous terrace of Santa Caterina and the fishing village of Santa Maria La Scala. It is a truly enchanting sight.» The chosen ceramic tiles, TT120 Progetto 3 grey porcelain, display meticulous workmanship. The unglazed tile has a coloured body and a lightly textured surface with a grainy finish. The colour and surface are created from small beads of clay and coloured granules of different sizes.
