The elegant façade of the Park Hyatt Vendôme Hotel extends over a long section of Rue de la Paix, a street right in the heart of Paris running between Place de l’Opéra and Place Vendôme. The hotel is located in a luxurious neighbourhood, not far from the Louvre Museum and the Tuileries Gardens.
As part of a chain headquartered in Chicago, this hotel splendidly combines cutting-edge comfort with tradition in a sophisticated and modern environment. The interior design bears the signature of Ed Tuttle, a famous American architect with a manifest passion for art who has been designing prestigious international hotels for a number of years. For the construction of Park Hyatt, Tuttle collaborated closely with art gallery manager Darthea Speyer, who guided him in the choice of works by artists such as Ed Paschke, Roseline Granet and Sam Gilliam. Art is so present in Tuttle’s projects that his interior design seems inspired by paintings, forming an original blend of aesthetics and functionality.
Designing the interiors of the Park Hyatt Hotel, Ed Tuttle gave expression to his lifelong fascination for Paris. In this project, he adopted a variety of styles ranging from those of Paris and France during the reign of Louis XVI through to the 1930s, revisited in a contemporary manner. By choosing to include a series of capital-less columns in the building, the designer makes clear reference to classical models, rejecting all possible forms of mimesis.
There is also a strong reference to the precious and traditional materials used in old Haussmann buildings: Paris stone, bronze and mahogany are fundamental elements of the project which achieves a sophisticated synthesis of artistic culture and contemporary design.
In 2009, after a six-month restyling project, the Park Hyatt Paris-Vendôme Duplex Presidential Suite rediscovered its magic atmosphere. Perfectly in keeping with the Haussmann style, on the sixth and seventh floors of the 200-square-metre five-star hotel, the Paris apartment has two stunning terraces offering a view of Place Vendôme, the Tour Eiffel and Notre Dame. The artworks of Sideo Fromboluti surround the grand piano as if they were a choir. Mahogany covers the walls, while the Paris stone and precious silk chenille fabrics elegantly create the atmosphere of a revisited past, combining French classicism and contemporary styles. Classical refinement and modernity blend into this ensemble, generating maximum comfort and wellness.
Particular attention has been devoted to the bathroom which has been converted into a luxurious spa with a breathtaking view over the Paris rooftops. The bathroom is entirely clad with precious Trend mosaics with 24kt gold leaf and hand cut to a size of 2×2 cm or 1×1 cm. The unique feature of this material is that the various shades of coloured gold can be obtained by changing the colour of the thin blown glass that protects the gold leaf. Sixty square metres of luxury, comprising a whirlpool tub, a sauna, a massage bed, a barber chair and a customised fitness bench.
