An artfully restrained interior design project carried out on an apartment just outside Sydney has created luminous, open interiors that connect seamlessly with the outside world and offer splendid views of Keltie Bay. The setting is Darling Point, one of Australia’s most exclusive and prestigious suburbs located four kilometres to the east of the financial district of the country’s most populous and vibrant metropolis.
The large open-plan living space comprises a conversation/relaxation area with small corner sofas designed to avoid obstructing the breathtaking view and a dining area facing onto the open kitchen, where a mirrored panel reflects the space and creates a sense of seamless continuity. A hallway has been skilfully converted into a private office with two workstations. The master bedroom occupies a secluded, cosy space, likewise customised with a panoramic window overlooking the constant activity of the bay, while the bathroom features a transparent shower enclosure facing onto the external terrace. The result is an intriguing in-out sensation, the feeling of living in the open air while being safely tucked away in the privacy of one’s home.
The furnishing elements are sparse and essential and have an exclusive contemporary design, illuminated by lights with strong decorative appeal such as the organically-shaped chandelier suspended over the dining table. A pale colour palette spanning beige, rope and ecru was chosen for the wood details and soft furnishings, creating a light-and-bright effect in keeping with the dominant style of contemporary homes in the cosmopolitan and fashion-conscious city of Sydney.
The large windows framing the view of the bay like a tableau vivant and the Limestone collection tiles in the Slate Natural finish from Cotto d’Este for the floors create a sense of minimalism and understated luxury. For the interior walls, the designers opted for Cotto d’Este’s flagship 60×120 cm size tile in an extra-thick 14 mm version along with Kerlite ultra-thin panels.
The tiles were supplied and installed by Rocks On, a sales partner of Cotto d’Este. Founded in 1992, the company has built a solid reputation for delivering reliable, efficient service and high-quality hard surface solutions to the building industry throughout Australasia. „Our attention to new production methods in manufacturing combined with the timeless appearances of nature, are the inspiration behind the supply of our innovative selection of materials,“ states the Rocks On website. „We believe that the preservation of natural resources is paramount for our future.
